The Justinian Society of Philadelphia will honor Scott F. Cooper, 2010 chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, on Feb. 22. The date has been changed from Feb. 10 because of the impending snow storm.

The reception will begin at 11:30 a.m. A noon luncheon will follow. The reception and luncheon will be held at the Union League of Philadelphia, 140 South Broad St.

Ticket prices are $50 per person for members and $60 per person for nonmembers. A table of 10 is $450 for Justinian members and $550 for nonmembers.

Clarence D. Armbrister will be the distinguished guest speaker at a naturalization ceremony to be held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 11 in the Ceremonial Courtroom of the U.S. Courthouse, Sixth and Market streets.

Armbrister was named chief of staff by Mayor-elect Michael A. Nutter on Nov. 27, 2007.

Judge Petrese B. Tucker of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania will preside over the ceremony.

Motions will be given by Norman McCall, immigration services officer, and the oath of citizenship will be presented by Aida Ayala, naturalization clerk. Rachel E. Kopp, financial secretary of the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association, will offer remarks on behalf of the association. A response to the court on behalf of the new citizens will given by Maia Kay, formerly of Georgia.

About 100 new citizens from 36 countries will become naturalized.

Philadelphia-area residents in need of legal advice can speak with a volunteer attorney from the Philadelphia Bar Association free of charge on Feb. 17 by calling LegalLine P.M. at 215-238-6333 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Callers will receive confidential information on whatever legal issue they face, including answers to questions regarding family law, landlord/tenant disputes and wills and employment.

LegalLine, which is coordinated by the Philadelphia Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division on the third Wednesday of each month, is a public-service program.

On Jan. 22, Rebecca Shaver, executive director of MADD, Pennsylvania received the Pennsylvania Association for Justice's Community Service Award from Cherry Fieger, Cherry PC. She accepted the award on behalf of all the volunteers and staff of MADD, Pennsylvania.
